NEW HAVEN — Summer often brings time to start work on projects around the home.

And Thompsons, a store in New Haven, is now open and offers a variety of supplies for basic hardware needs.

The store, which is formerly Fields Hardware and located next to the fire station at 405 5th St., celebrated its grand opening on June 6. The store is owned and operated by Matt and Kendra Thompson, who took ownership of the store on March 1. Thompson’s brother, Mark Thompson, also manages the store.

As natives of New Haven, the Thompson’s said that they were very excited and happy to do business in their home town. The brothers described the grand opening as being quite a success as several customers were in attendance to see what the new store has to offer.

“Business has been fantastic,” Mark Thompson said.

Both Mark and Matt Thompson stressed that the store is more than just a hardware store, and that customer service is valued.

“We have the connections needed to get people what they want. We don’t want to say no,” Mark Thompson said. “We are really close to home. We know everybody here.”

Thompson added that New Haven’s friendly, small town atmosphere carries over into the store, which he described as conveying a family feel as well. He also stressed the store’s slogan, which is ‘Building your trust on quality, value and service.’

Matt Thompson also emphasized the importance of the store in relation to the area.

“It feels so good to be working in my hometown. We are more than a hardware store — we are here for the community, and we hope the community will support us,” he said. “We (are) building a business based on service that gives customers good value and a good product.”

Thompsons has products available such as kitchen cabinets, siding, roofing, plumbing supplies, paint and pet and animal feed. In addition, the store will work to get items for a customer if they are not in stock.
