GALLIPOLIS FERRY, W.Va. — Charges are expected to be filed against the driver of a vehicle involved in a head-on collision that killed a Leon man Thursday night, West Virginia State Police report.
Cpl. C.M. Zerkle of the Mason County Detachment told WSAZ-TV that Pinkney Shirley, 50, died while being transported to a hospital following the 9 p.m. accident at the entrance to the Marathon station on W.Va. 2 near Gallipolis Ferry.
Zerkle said Shirley was northbound on 2 riding a motorcycle when Paula King, 43, Proctorville, Ohio, traveling southbound, turned left in front of Shirley. The motorcycle and King's vehicle collided, ejecting Shirley from the motorcycle. King told troopers she did not see Shirley approaching when she made the turn.
King is expected to be charged and Zerkle said the case will be turned over to the Mason County Prosecuting Attorney's Office to see if additional charges are warranted.
