POINT PLEASANT — Members of the Mason County Board of Education approved the names of volunteers to serve on a Comprehensive Educational Facilities Plan (CEFP) Committee for the 2010-2020 cycle.
During Tuesday’s meeting, members approved more than 30 names of people to serve on the committee. The committee’s main objective will be the development of a prioritized 10-year building plan and budget for the local school system.
The most recent committee had 19 members who dealt with a range of topics, including consolidation and state-appropriated funds. Superintendent Dr. Larry Parsons said the main topics for the new committee members will be proposed projects at some of the county’s elementary schools, including Beale, Leon and Roosevelt.
Responsibilities of the members will include participation in a series of committee meetings as well as a public forum beginning this fall to review the existing facilities’ conditions, existing space analysis, enrollment projections and associated costs.
The committee also will work to provide a strong educational environment that will meet the demands of current educational programs while being flexible enough to accommodate future programs. That includes developing a long-range technology improvement plan and budget that sustains the capacity to keep pace with ever-changing developments as well as incorporating environmentally-friendly and sustainable design in each building project when feasible.
Committee members also will be part of the CEFP Team, which will include architects, planners, parents, school administrators/staff, Board of Education representatives and community members. There is no compensation for participation.
