POINT PLEASANT — The Pleasant Valley Hospital Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy Departments will be offering a Speech and Sensory Camp this summer for children.
The camp is for children ages three-12. According to a news release, the program will give children the opportunity to participate in language enrichment and sensory/fine motor skill development with their peers.
The goals of the camp will include vocabulary development, articulation skills, attention and registration to task, peer socialization, sensory integration, fine and gross motor development, written language development/literacy and handwriting.
“There will be plenty of productive fun,” Debra Long, director of rehabilitation services, said in a news release. “This camp will provide adequate support as needed to promote active engagement and social growth between peers of similar ages and abilities.”
The camp will feature weekly themes as well. The themes include on the farm/ at the fair, our land (Fourth of July), beach/water fun, Christmas in July, dinosaurs and celebration (picnic/graduation).
All children who wish to attend the Speech and Sensory Camp must have a physician’s order, a school IEP at registration and be toilet trained. If there is not an IEP, they must schedule for a speech/language evaluation and occupational therapy prior to the start of the camp, which is not included in the camp tuition price.

Children ages seven-12 will meet 12:30-3 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. Snacks will be provided to all children. If a child is on a special diet, then the parents or legal guardian of that child must supply a snack for them.
An open house meeting for the PVH Speech and Sensory Camp will be 4-6 p.m. Thursday, June 10 at the Pleasant Valley Wellness Center.
“There are limited spots available. These are small group settings with therapeutic activities designed and supervised by experienced healthcare professionals,” Long said in a news release.
