ELLENBORO — The Lady Knights shut out the Lady Rebels of Ritchie County Thursday night in game one of regional play. The 22-9 Point Pleasant squad upped the ante against the contending team with a solid defensive effort and just enough of an offensive drive to secure a 2-0 victory over Ritchie County.
Senior pitcher Tessa Wyant allowed only two hits during the seven-inning contest and struck out 11 to secure the Red and Black win.
The match was scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when Anna Sommer and Jennifer Wickline each knocked out singles to get on base. Devin Cottrill followed up with a single that sent Sommer in for Point’s first run.
The final run of the contest occurred in the fifth inning when Emily Sommer was sent home by a single by Jennifer Wickline.
Lady Knight hitters during the game were: Wickline (3-3) with an RBI; Cottrill (1-3) with an RBI; A. Sommer (1-3); and Regan Cottrill (1-3).
The Lady Knights are set to host the regional championship Thursday against the winner of the Magnolia-Weir game.
