Dear Editor,

We are appreciative of those who attended the National Day of Prayer last week and for their faithful stand. The National Day of Prayer Taskforce has declared this as the National Year of Prayer!

There is a challenge facing Christians right now as the government implements new and more hostile attacks on our faith and families.

Now, perhaps more than ever in our nation’s history, it’s crucial that Christians stand up for their faith and for the defense of His Word.

I agree with Dr. James Dobson, who said “I’m convinced that if God’s people do not seek His blessing and mercy, the church will be tested severely, as if by fire, over the coming weeks and years.”

When there are no checks and balances within the entire range of government, it’s time for God’s people to be in prayer. What better time for Christians to seek public office and to support those who would keep a check and balance on policies that would destroy our families. An important election will take place in 2010.

Last week millions of Americans recognized the National Day of Prayer. I encourage you to extend this special day of prayer to a new commitment to pray for our nation throughout this entire year.

As Ben Franklin said when the leaders of our new nation faced an impossible divide at the Constitutional Convention: “I have lived, sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth — that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid?”

Franklin’s works echo those of Daniel, who wrote, “The Most High is sovereign over the kingdoms of men” (Daniel 4:25). Yes, these are challenging times ... perilous times.

Political and cultural forces are at work to undermine our faith and destroy the family. But God governs in the affairs of men, and He hears us when we cry out to Him.

Please continue to pray for America.

Sincerely,

Alice Click,

Mount Alto
