POINT PLEASANT — A psychologist and college instructor has been arrested for possession of marijuana.
According to officials with the Mason County Detachment of the West Virginia State Police, Mark E. Bowman, 48, of Point Pleasant, was arrested Thursday morning by Sgt. E.B. Starcher for possession of a controlled substance - more than 15 grams of marijuana.
According to the criminal complaint, the police were contacted on three separate occasions this year to seize marijuana at Bowman’s residence. During those incidents, officers seized 11 plastic bags of marijuana as well as three bottles of marijuana seeds and a receipt for $275 to a marijuana seed company in England.
Officers also photographed three grow lights, drying trays, planting fertilizer, growing pots and other drug paraphernalia and seized numerous e-mails relating to the purchase of poppy seeds, prescription drugs, marijuana seeds and books about how to grow marijuana.
Bowman has been employed with the Mason County Day Report Center since 2006. Allie Crawford, office director, said Bowman had requested a leave of absence, which currently is under review. Bowman also has served as an instructor at the Marshall University Mid-Ohio Valley Center. Repeated calls to MOVC were not returned.
Bowman was taken to Mason County Magistrate Court, where he was arraigned by Magistrate Gail Roush and released on a $1,000 bond.
