POINT PLEASANT — A Mason County Schools bus driver has been terminated from employment.

Last Thursday, members of the Mason County Board of Education conducted an employee disciplinary hearing. According to Superintendent Dr. Larry Parsons, the board agreed to the termination of Martin Zerkle, one of the county’s school bus drivers. The board also upheld Zerkle’s suspension without pay.

Parsons said Zerkle had been suspended due to several infractions of Board of Education policies.

Following the suspension, Zerkle was given a hearing date and the chance to defend himself. Parsons had presented the grounds of termination in a letter that was dated March 20.

Board members also approved the deletion of several professional and service positions to modify the job descriptions and re-post them. The positions are for the 2009-10 school year.

One position for a resource/collaboration teacher at the Mason County Career Center and Point Pleasant Junior Senior High School was pulled for amendment, Parsons said. The position now will include certification LD/MI with the position to only be at the career center.

The next meeting will be 6:30 p.m. today at the Mason County Career Center.
