POINT PLEASANT — Officials have completed their investigation of the death of a Point Pleasant woman.

Around 5:50 p.m. last Thursday, Bobby Cobb returned to his home on McNeil Avenue and found his wife, Erma, 51, lying in the floor unconscious and unresponsive. After finding his wife, Bobby Cobb called Mason County 911, and emergency personnel with Mason County Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to the home.

After their arrival, Erma Cobb was pronounced dead at the scene.

Because of state law and circumstances involved at the scene, officers with the Point Pleasant Police Department and Mason County Detachment of the West Virginia State Police were called to the scene and initially labeled the cause of death as suspicious.

According to Chief Ernie Watterson, following the event of an unattended death, law enforcement officers are called in to conduct an investigation to rule out any foul play that could have attributed to the death.

While at the scene, officers called for the assistance of the state police’s crime scene mobile lab as well as special investigators for precautionary measures. Following the investigation, Erma Cobb’s body was sent to the state medical examiner’s office in South Charleston for an autopsy.

Watterson said that upon completion of the investigation and the autopsy, Erma Cobb’s death was ruled as health-related.

Lt. Shawn Ross and Sgt. Bryan Morrow of the Point Pleasant Police Department as well as Sgt. E.B. Starcher, Cpl. K.M. Gilley and Trooper A.D. Wootton of the state police were involved in the investigation.
