POINT PLEASANT — Car enthusiasts will have an opportunity to view a variety of automobiles with the Point Pleasant River Museum’s first Silver Bridge Memorial Rod and Bike Show.
The event, which is slated for Saturday, May 2, will feature a wide variety of cars, trucks and bikes and is an open show. There also will be food and door prizes available.
Trophies will be awarded to winning vehicles in four different classes, and a 35-inch people’s choice trophy also will be given.
According to Jack Fowler, executive director of the river museum, the facility already has cars set to come from as far as Indianapolis, Ind., and Louisville, Ky.
“They are not just coming to show their cars, but they want to come to Point Pleasant,” Fowler said.
In addition, Fowler described the event as a way to raise money, as all proceeds will go toward the museum. He said the museum and event organizers would like to have more than 100 cars for the event.
According to Wendell Bacon, car show chairman, cars do not need to be fixed up in order to enter the show. Cars will be parked on Main Street, First Street and behind the river museum. Bacon and Fowler agreed that the event will be an opportunity for people to not only look at other cars, but show off their automobiles as well.
“(The car show) will be a great day for people to come to downtown Point Pleasant and see great automobiles,” Fowler said, adding that people who enjoying working on their cars are proud to show them off.
Bacon encouraged youth to attend the show as well, as it is a good way for those interested in cars to gain experience.
Registration will be 10 a.m.-noon, with the show slated to begin at 1 p.m. Awards will be presented following the show at 4 p.m.
