Students receive honors at state contests

POINT PLEASANT — More than 55 Mason County students placed during state competitions for their respective organizations.

The students were recognized during a recent Mason County Board of Education meeting.

The 2008-09 state winners include:

Health Occupation Students of America: Mason County Career Center/Point Pleasant Junior Senior High School: Matt Thompson, second place in Medical Math; Emily Sommer, first place, Dental Terminology; Rachel Rollins, Raven Martin and Karissa Taylor, second place, Medical Reading; Eric Veith and Tessa Tarker, third place, Forensic Medicine.

The State FBLA treasurer is Ashlee Filkins, and Kathy Rollins was named the state FBLA adviser.

Future Farmers of America regional winner: Wesley Davis, third place, Prepared Public Speaking.

The state vice-president for SKILLS USA is Tyler Toles.

Students who had a high placement will go on to national contests.
