Old cell phones needed
POINT PLEASANT — Point Pleasant in Bloom is collecting used cell phones during the month of April to be donated to victims of domestic abuse in Mason and Gallia counties. Any phones not needed for this purpose will be sent to a nonprofit group that will dispose of all parts of the phone in an environmentally responsible manner.
Point Pleasant in Bloom members agreed that it is important that cell phones be recycled because they contain toxic metals such as lead, mercury, cadmium and arsenic that, if placed in a landfill, would leach into the soil and groundwater. Recycling also decreases the need for more metal mining.
Individuals who want to donate their cell phones may drop them off at the pharmacy counter at Fruth Pharmacy in Point Pleasant or in the office at Twin Rivers Foodland in Point Pleasant.
Dance canceled
POINT PLEASANT — Friday’s square dance at the Gene Salem Senior Center in Point Pleasant has been canceled due to the Good Friday holiday.
