POINT PLEASANT — Everyone loves a parade.

And in a county that annually sees more than 10 parades throughout the area, it should be no surprise that a local organization is planning a traditional Easter bonnet parade next weekend.

The event, slated for Saturday, April 11, will be hosted by the Mason County Amvets Ladies Auxiliary.

Susan Paulson, secretary/treasurer of the auxiliary, said line-up will start at 1 p.m. at the State Theater on Main Street, with the parade scheduled to start as soon as people are organized. From there, participants will proceed approximately two blocks to the post office.

She added that prizes will be awarded to the participant with the prettiest bonnet, most original bonnet and most patriotic bonnet. In addition, at the end of the parade there will be games, face painting and egg decorating. The Easter bunny also will be present for pictures with people who bring their cameras.

Paulson said people of all ages are encouraged to participate.

“We like to have things for the kids in the community, but this is for all ages who want to participate — anybody who has a bonnet,” she added.

Paulson said the group is hoping for a big turnout despite this being the first year for the parade. She said the event is just another way for the group to promote community involvement and is one of several annual events members host — the Amvets also organize the Memorial Day and Veterans Day parades in the city and sponsor an annual community Christmas activity.
