BOE approves agenda, personnel items

POINT PLEASANT — At the most recent meeting of the Mason County Board of Education, board members approved the following agenda and personnel items.

Approved Minutes, Agenda 12-27, February 21, 2013. Approved Minutes, Agenda 12-28, February 26, 2013. Approved volunteers from Ashton Elementary, New Haven Elementary, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, Roosevelt Elementary, and Wahama Jr/Sr High, for the remainder of the 2012-13 school year.

Accepted the resignation of Alan Machir, Substitute Teacher, effective March 14, 2013. Approved Family Medical Leave for Troy Oldaker, Teacher, Point Pleasant Primary School, for a maximum of 12 weeks unpaid leave. Approved intermittent Family Medical Leave for Jana Michaels, Teacher, Ashton Elementary School, for a maximum of 12 weeks unpaid leave. Approved intermittent Family Medical Leave for Angela Roach, Teacher, Point Pleasant Intermediate School, for a maximum of 12 weeks unpaid leave.

Approved the mutual agreement of Erin Northup, Kindergarten Teacher, Leon Elementary, to First Grade Teacher, Leon Elementary, for the 2013-14 school year. County will be the funding source. Approved Family Medical Leave for Stephen Patterson, Bus Operator, for a maximum of 12 weeks unpaid leave. Approved Family Medical Leave for Goldie Patterson, Custodian, Beale Elementary, for a maximum of 12 weeks unpaid leave.

Approved the contract termination of Cathy Kirby, Cafeteria Manager, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, for the limited purpose of adjusting the work day to include an eight hour day and modifying duties and responsibilities, following the end of the 2012-13 school year. Approved to post the position of Special Education Aide, Leon Elementary, 200 days, for the 2012-13 school year. Special Education will be the funding source.

Accepted the resignation of Bridget Judy, Assistant Softball Coach, Hannan Jr/Sr High, effective February 21, 2013. Accepted the resignation of Jeromy Williams, Assistant Girls Track Coach, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, effective March 5, 2013. Approved the employment of Marybeth Pyles, Service Personnel Trainer/Examiner, Cook Classes, Central Office Itinerant, on an as needed basis, Job 001-101-E, effective for the 2012-13 school year. County will be the funding source.

Approved the employment of Thomas Mayes, Jr High Assistant Baseball Coach, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, Job 502-125-S, for the 2012-13 school year. County will be the funding source. Approved the employment of David Meadows, Athletic Assistant, Hannan Jr/Sr High, Job 501-024-S, for the 2012-13 school year. County will be the funding source.

Approved the ratification of orders issued, transfers, and supplements. Check Numbers 83089 through 83270, totaling $604,439.08.

In addition to Superintendent Suzanne Dickens, board members present were Thomas Nunnery, Randy Searls, Greg Fowler, Paul Sayre, and Dale Shobe.

The Mason County Board of Education will meet again for a Special Transfer Hearings meeting at 6 p.m. on March 19, at the Mason County Career Center.
