BOE reconfigures custodian contracts

POINT PLEASANT — At the most recent meeting of the Mason County Board of Education, board members approved the reconfiguration of several custodian contracts.

The contracts of the following custodians were terminated for the for the limited purpose of reconfiguring their schedules and duties effective at the end of the 2012-13 school year: Melissa Abshire, Wahama Jr/Sr High; Thomas Byus, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High; Michael Burnett, New Haven Elementary; Richard Campbell, MCCC; Junior Chaney, Point Pleasant Intermediate School; Treva Clutter, Central Office/Maintenance/Bus Garage; Clyde Connolly, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High; Dorothy Coyner, Hannan Jr/Sr High; William Flora, Ashton Elementary; Valerie Freeman, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High; Bill Gay, MCCC; Denver Gibbs, Wahama Jr/Sr High; Nellie Harper, Beale Elementary; Will Hart, Leon Elementary; Michael Hopson, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High; David Jarvis, Point Pleasant Primary School;

Gregory Jarvis, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High; Melvin Johnson, Beale Elementary; Raymond Lewis, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High; Charles Litchfield, Point Pleasant Intermediate; Julie McWilliams, Beale Elementary; Christopher Mullins, Leon Elementary; Rusty Nott, New Haven Elementary; Martha Oldaker, Wahama Jr/Sr High; Goldie Patterson, Beale Elementary; Saundra Randolph, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High; Evelyn Reitmire, Wahama Jr/Sr High; Shawn Rhodes, Hannan Jr/Sr High; Shawnda Smith, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High; James Stanley, Point Pleasant Intermediate School; Geraldine Stephens, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High; Darrell Tackett, Hannan Jr/Sr High; Joshua Thompson, Roosevelt Elementary; Sherrie Thompson, New Haven Elementary; James Walker, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High; Shari Weethee, Ashton Elementary; Stephen Williamson, Roosevelt Elementary, Joyce Zerkle, New Haven Elementary.

The board also approved the following Title I Professionals, in accordance with WV Code 18A-2-2, and Service Personnel, in accordance with WV code 18A-2-6, be terminated due to reduction in force, effective at the end of the 2012-13 school year: Teresa Gibbs-lack of certainty of funding; Carolyn Hesson-lack of certainty of funding; Ella Schultz-lack of certainty of funding; Rita Stewart-lack of certainty of funding; Jessica Tice-lack of certainty of funding.

The contracts of the following Save the Children employees in accordance with WV Code 18A-2-2, and with WV Code 18A-2-6, were also terminated due to reduction in force, effective at the end of the 2012-13 school year: Tonya Bonecutter-Lack of certainty of funding; Danetta Hatfield-Lack of certainty of funding; Marcus Rice-Lack of certainty of funding; Amilda Noll-Thompson-Lack of certainty of funding.

Other approved agenda items were as follows:

Approved the installation of a new telephone system for Roosevelt Elementary at federal GSA pricing levels of $5,522.26, from Aarons Business Solutions. Excess levy will be the funding source. Approved the installation of new and additional intercom systems at Ashton Elementary from Appalachian Signals and Products, Inc., for $18,589.47. Funding source will be Excess Levy Funds. Approved the purchase of a plasma cutting system from PlasmaCam, Inc., for $24,090.74, (acceptable low quotation), and a 3D printer from Amtek, for $19,026.00 (sole source provider), for Mason County Career Center. Funding source will be Special Grant Award from the West Virginia Department of Education.

Approved the highest submitted bids to recycle surplus bleacher material from Wahama Jr/Sr High Football Field: Steel at $265.00 per ton from American Car Crushing, Aluminum at $.55 per pound from J & D Auto Parts & Salvage. Proceeds will go back into the Wahama Football Field Project to replace existing bleachers. Approved the ratification of orders issued, transfers, and supplements, check numbers 83049 through 83088, totaling $89,940.52.

In addition to Superintendent Suzanne Dickens, board members present were Thomas Nunnery, Randy Searls, Greg Fowler, Paul Sayre, and Dale Shobe.

The Mason County Board of Education will meet again for a regular business meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12, at the Mason County Career Center.
