NEW HAVEN — A New Haven man has been arrested following an altercation involving a knife.

Jonathan Allbaugh, 23, of New Haven, is being charged with unlawful assault following an alleged altercation involving Allbaugh’s brother and another male juvenile.

According to New Haven Police Chief D.L. Hardwick, the altercation allegedly began with the juvenile and Allbaugh’s brother. Allbaugh then stepped in to break it up and was allegedly struck by the juvenile and knocked to the ground. Allbaugh allegedly then pulled out a knife and cut the juvenile across the back. Allbaugh also sustained some minor injuries.

Hardwick said Allbaugh and the juvenile were both taken to Pleasant Valley Hospital and treated for their injuries, and the juvenile was released to his parents. Allbaugh was also cleared and then arrested.

Hardwick noted that due to an error in paperwork, Allbaugh was released from the Western Regional Jail following the initial arrest, but Hardwick has made the correction and will have a warrant to re-arrest him. Hardwick said following his arrest, Allbaugh will then be taken to Mason County Magistrate Court for his arraignment.

More on the arraignment will be reported by the Point Pleasant Register when information becomes available.
