POINT PLEASANT — Though some never make time for their own preventative health care needs, a chance to take care of several necessary tests is set for Saturday.

Several free health screenings will be available from noon to 4 p.m. on Feb. 23, at the Nation Guard Armory during the Mason County Health Symposium, presented by the Mason County Health Department.

During the symposium, area health care providers will be offering blood pressure, body mass index, blood glucose, blood cholesterol, PSA tests, breast exams, orthotic scans and bone density testing. According to the health department, screenings detect potential problems and can identify those who need to seek further evaluation by their physician, and all of these common tests are great screening tools for potential health problems.

In addition to these health screenings, information will be available on dental care, lead poisoning, hepatitis, alcohol and drug abuse and bullying. Presentations will include “Healthy Cooking” by Holzer Health System and “Safety in Your Home Kitchen” by the Bureau of Public Health. There will also be several exercise demonstrations including activities for all ages. Events will include a jump rope demonstration, Zumba dancing, children dance and belly dancing.

Other services and information will be available on domestic violence, healthy nutrition, advanced directives, emergency preparedness, pre-natal and infant care, emergency care, diabetes screening, care seat safety, food safety, sports safety, osteoporosis, tobacco prevention, home medical supplies, drunk driving, epilepsy, bicycle safety, hepatitis, organ donation, Andrea’s Law and literacy. Attendees can also bring a medication list to be reviewed by a pharmacist.
