DAYTON, TN — Host Bryan College pushed across an unearned first inning run and made it stand up as the Lions held off the University of Rio Grande, 1-0, Friday night, as part of the Tennessee Valley Baseball Invitational.

Bryan, which improved to 3-1 with the victory, sandwiched one of their two hits against Rio senior starter Ryan Robertson around a pair of errors and a bases loaded walk to score the game’s only run.

Chris Jeffries reached on a one-out error by sophomore second baseman Grant Tamane and moved to second on a single to right-center by Tyler Latham before freshman center fielder Chris Ford dropped Jess Cartner’s flyball to center for an error which loaded the bases.

Robertson fanned Kevin Layne for the second out of the inning, but Josh Harris drew a walk on a 3-2 pitch to force home Jeffries with what proved to be the game’s only run.

Robertson escaped any further damage by striking out Blake Johnson to end the inning.

Robertson allowed just one more hit - a two-out single by Grant Zawadzki in the second - in a route-going performance and the Lions had only one runner — Zawadzki — advance beyond first base the rest of the night.

As good as Robertson was on the hill for the RedStorm, Bryan starter L.J. Rowden was even better for the Lions.

The right-hander allowed just one hit - a two-out single by Tamane in the fifth - and just four baserunners in a complete game effort. None of the four baserunners advanced beyond first base.
