SOUTH CHARLESTON — From Monday, Jan. 28, through Wednesday, Jan. 30, a Sex Offender Compliance Sweep was conducted in the Troop 4 area which includes the following counties: Kanawha, Putnam, Wood, Ritchie, Wirt, Pleasants, Clay, Roane, Calhoun, Mason and Jackson.
The following was reported: 485, sex offenders contacted/verified; 139 violations detected during sweep; 101 investigations generated; 14 arrested during sweep (listed below); 97 pending arrest (obtaining warrants).
Charles Rogers, Scott Depot, failure to update. Jason Glover, Red House, failure to update. Franklin D. Walker, Nitro, misdemeanor citation for simple poss. Michael C. McKinney, Nitro, misdemeanor citation for simple poss. Howard Justice, Dunbar, possession of marijuana, obstructing. Matthew M. Williams, St. Albans, second offense DUI. Anthone L. Flippen, Dunbar, failure to register. William R. Ratliff, South Charleston, failure to register. Rodney W. Johnson, Elkview, two counts failure to register. Robert Henline, Ritchie County, four counts felony possession of firearm. Shawn Gray, Wood County, failure to register, parole violation. Joseph Durrette, Wood County, failure to register. Jackie Goodman, Wood County, failure to register. Buddy Arthur, Wood County, failure to register.
This Compliance Sweep was coordinated and conducted by the West Virginia State Police, which includes the West Virginia State Police Crimes Against Children Unit with the assistance of various law enforcement agencies such as the U.S. Marshal Service, Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department, Mason County Sheriff’s Department, Putnam County Sheriff’s Department, Roane County Sheriff’s Department, Charleston Police Department, Dunbar Police Department, Nitro Police Department, Parkersburg Police Department, Point Pleasant Police Department, South Charleston Police Department, Spencer Police Department and St. Albans Police Department. Sex Offender Compliance Sweeps such as this are randomly conducted throughout the year in addition to yearly verifications in order to ensure compliance.
