MASON — The regular filing period for the Mason Municipal Election has ended and seven people have filed for candidacy.

According to town employees, the two filing for the position of mayor were Jerry Tucker and Larry Daniel. The four filing for one of the five council seats were incumbent member Marty Yeager, Robert Wing, Shelly Allensworth, and Julie Mitchell. Filing for the position of recorder was incumbent Deann Russell.

Although the regular filing period has ended, write-in candidates may still file for candidacy and have until April 23 to do so. It was also stated that candidates have until Feb. 12 to withdraw from the election.

Since only four filed for one of five council seats, it was added if no other write-in candidates file for the remaining seat, someone will be appointed.

The municipal election will take place on June 11 and those elected as mayor, recorder, or a council member will serve a two year term and will take office beginning July 1. Regular council meetings are also held at 6:30 p.m. on the first and third Thursday of the month.

The filing period for the municipal election was open from Jan 14-26, and any interested individual could file during regular office hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. There was a $5 fee to file.

As previously reported, the positions are currently held by the following: mayor, Mindy Kearns; recorder, Deann Russell; council members, James Pauley, Nick Northup, Michelle Pearson, Sarah Stover, Marty Yeager.
