CHARLESTON — The West Virginia Humanities Council, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, has recently announced upcoming mini-grant deadlines.

According to a release, the mini-grant deadlines occur every 60 days for projects requesting $1,500 or less, and the next two deadlines are Feb. 1 and April 1, 2013. The most recent mini-grant awarded in Mason County, as previously reported, was awarded to the Point Pleasant River Museum to help fund “The Arthur Siegel Project,” which will be coming to the museum in July of 2013.

It was reported that the Humanities Council serves West Virginia through grants and direct programs in the humanities and budgets more than $600,000 for grants and programs each year. A variety of grants are offered to nonprofit organizations that support educational programming.

The most recent mini-grants awarded went to the following:

Concord University in Mercer County for “Creating Environmental Mythology”; West

Virginia Junior Classical League in Ohio County for “West Virginia Junior Classical League

2013”; High Rocks Educational Corporation in Pocahontas County for “New Voices Creative

Writing Workshop and Reading Series”; and Rivers to Ridges Heritage Trail in Putnam

County for “Human Adaptation of the Kanawha River.”
