CHESTER, Ohio — Meigs County Sheriff Robert Beegle has released the names related to a Friday shooting of three Meigs County residents.

Robert Hunt, age 57, was responsible for a shooting that occurred on Taylor Road off of Ohio 248 at approximately 2:30 p.m. Friday. He died as a result of his self-inflicted injuries.

Beegle said that sometime between 2:15 and 2:30 p.m., a male subject entered the home where he had been living and proceeded to shoot his estranged partner Keitha Whitlatch, age 69, and her adult daughter, Kelly Miller. Miller is not the daughter of the shooter.

According to Beegle, a civil protection order hearing had taken place earlier in the day between Hunt and Whitlatch. Hunt had been ordered to go to the residence and pick up his personal belongings between 2 and 6 p.m.

Beegle said an armed Hunt was found alive in a field adjacent to the home when law enforcement arrived on the scene. According to Beegle, Hunt ignored repeated orders to put his weapon down and ultimately shot himself on site.

Beegle said Whitlatch was life-flighted from the scene to St. Mary’s Medical Center, while Hunt and Miller were transported by ambulance to Pleasant Valley Hospital.

There is no word on Whitlatch’s condition. Miller’s injuries were not life-threatening.

Beegle said Hunt was dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Agents with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) are processing the scene. The shooting is under investigation.
