APPLE GROVE — The name of a Putnam County man who was killed in an accident was released Monday by the Mason County Sheriff’s Department as deputies continue their investigation of the crash.
Dustin Lee Young, 22, of Red House, was killed in a single-vehicle accident after he crashed into a metal pole and a utility pole before striking a tree next to the Mason County Emergency Medical Services - Valley Station on W.Va. 2 in Apple Grove early Sunday.
Young was pronounced dead at the scene by Mason County Coroner Rita Chapman, according to Sheriff David Anthony.
In a prepared statement, Anthony said Young was driving a 1996 Ford Escort and was believed to have been involved in an accident at the Good Times Bar, also on W.Va. 2 near the Robert C. Byrd Locks and Dam, only minutes before the accident at the EMS building. Young allegedly struck one corner of the building that houses the bar, then left the scene.
As emergency crews with the Valley Volunteer Fire Department and Mason County EMS prepared to respond to that accident, Young wrecked next to the EMS building. The accident happened at 3:10 a.m.
Crews were on the scene for several hours extricating Young from the vehicle. He was taken to the Pleasant Valley Hospital morgue.
Senior Deputy Robert Glenn is the investigating officer.
