POINT PLEASANT — Students who enjoyed having a few days out of school due to snow now will have to make up those days as the weather starts to warm up.
Due to inclement weather, Mason County Schools has canceled classes seven times this school year, according to a prepared statement from the school system.
“It is the goal of the Board of Education to provide a full 180 instructional days of school,” said Dr. Larry Parsons, superintendent. “Fulfilling that goal will be difficult this school year.”
Of the seven days that were missed, only four will be made up. Students now will attend school Thursday, April 16; Friday, April 17; Thursday, June 4; and Friday, June 5.
The additional days mean a shorter spring break, which originally was scheduled April 13-17. The school year also has been extended by two days, with students originally scheduled to be dismissed for the summer on June 3.
Parsons, as well as members of the Board of Education, stressed the importance of all students attending school during the make-up days.
