Carl Douglas Burris died at the age of 78 in his home in Columbus, Ohio, on October 19, 2012. He was born to the late Worthy and Ethel Burris on January 5, 1934, in Maggie, W.Va. Carl was a veteran of the United States Navy. He retired after 37 dedicated years from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Plant and Shell Oil in Apple Grove, W.Va.


Carl was preceded in death by three brothers, Worthy, Jr., Larry and Stephen. Carl is survived by his wife Sharon of 58 years; his children and their spouses, Sheree and Floyd Skinner, Steve and Janet Hellner-Burris, Chuck and Betty Burris, Carla and Tracy Singleton, Janet and Scott Ellis; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; his brother, Jack Burris; sisters, Betty Crump, Nancy Lee and Kim Burris; and sisters-in-law, Norma M., Norma and Jane, as well as many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews.


Services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home in Gallipolis, with Pastor James Ellis officiating. Burial will follow at the Kirkland Memorial Gardens in Point Pleasant, West Virginia.


Military Funeral Honors will be presented at the cemetery by the Gallia County Veterans Funeral Detail.


There will be a celebration of life gathering following the committal at First Church of the Nazarene in Point Pleasant, W.Va.
