POINT PLEASANT — Many neighborhoods in the area have water standing in their streets after a major storm.
A solution to this situation is a rain garden, which is a shallow depression in a yard or parking lot that is planted with native wildflowers, grasses and shrubs. This makes it possible for the storm water to be absorbed in the land instead of running into the street, picking up oil and other harmful chemicals as it travels into overloaded sewage treatment plants and then into streams and rivers.
Laura Cox, ASLA, landscape architect, will speak about establishing a rain garden at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 19 at the Christ Episcopal Church parish house, located at 804 Main St. in Point Pleasant. The event will be hosted by the Tu-Endie-Wei Garden Club.
