This group of Point Pleasant High School band students practices its number for the 39th Annual Black Knight Revue. This year’s theme is “Live on Stage” and will feature a variety of music, including rock, pop, patriotic and Broadway tunes.
POINT PLEASANT — There’s a first time for everything.
And while this weekend will mark the 39th installment of the annual Black Knight Revue, it will be the first time the show has been performed in the Paul and Lillian Wedge Auditorium at Point Pleasant Junior Senior High School.
This year’s theme, “Live on Stage,” coincides with the band’s first Black Knight Revue performance in the school’s auditorium. According to Jeff Hilbert, band director, the auditorium offers a wider variety of effects, such as scenery pulley systems, lighting and sound.
“We are kind of apprehensive, but excited (to be in the auditorium). There is so much more capabilities here,” Hilbert said.
He added that there will be an orchestra pit, which will enable more room on stage. The production is put on by the high school band members, and junior high band members have helped with backstage work this year.
According to Hilbert, the band has been working on the revue for a month and a half, and he described this year’s show as something that people of all ages will enjoy.
“We have Broadway music, patriotic music, pop and rock, up-tempo numbers and ballads,” Hilbert said.
He added that the revue allows band members a chance to showcase all of their musical talents, including dancing and singing.
“(The revue) is a complete and total package built around the band program,” Hilbert said. “(This year’s revue) is one of the most exciting (shows) from the capabilities of sound, lighting and comfortable seating.”
“Live on Stage” will be performed Wednesday, Thursday and Friday during school for students and will be open to the public 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday. There also will be a 3 p.m. show Sunday.
