Daniel Olin “Doogan” Rice, 58, of Point Pleasant, passed away on Wednesday, October 3, 2012, while at St. Marys Medical Center in Huntington.

Daniel was born June 1, 1954, in Point Pleasant to the late Virgil Olin and Mary Marie Cogar Rice.

Known by those closest to him as Doogan, Danny is survived by his wife, Ester Sturgeon; two sisters, Mary Ellen Rice, and Lora (Steve) Bradford; one brother, Tony (Vickie) Rice of Point Pleasant; one sister-in-law, Rebecca Sturgeon; and a nephew, Waylon (Bethany) Sturgeon of Point Pleasant. Also surviving is his “Favorite mother-in-law in the world” Wanda Sturgeon, as well as many other family and friends.

Danny was a hard working and caring man, that was very proud of his 30 years of service in the IBEW Local #317 out of Huntington. Upon retirement, Danny spent his time doing what he loved, you could always find him outside and on his tractor enjoying nature and working around his farm.

When Danny wasn’t working you could always count on him spending time with he and Ester’s “four-legged fury kids” he truly loved his cats and they returned the feeling, and would follow him around all day.

To those that knew him best Danny will be truly missed.

Friends and family may call from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, October 5, 2012, for visitation at the Crow-Hussell Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 6, 2012, with Pastor Dan Spreaker officiating.
