POINT PLEASANT — At the most recent meeting of the Mason County Board of Education, board members approved the following agenda and personnel items.


Approved Minutes, Agenda #12-09, August 28, 2012. Approved to review, discuss, and place Policy #3112-Board Staff Communications, on a 5 day review and comment period. Approved to review, discuss, and place Policy #4112-Board Staff Communications, on a 5 day review and comment period.


Approved the out-of-state travel for Brianne Solomon, Teacher, Hannan Jr/Sr High, to attend the National Dance Education Conference in Los Angeles, CA, from October 23, 2012, through October 28, 2012. This will be at no cost to the Board or Hannan Jr/Sr High School. Approved the out-of-state trip for Wahama Jr/Sr High Choir, Rachel Reynolds, Melissa VanMeter, Stacy Bissell, Barbara Mitchell, and Teresa Murphy, to travel to New York City, NY, from April 3, through April 7, 2013, to participate in a chorus performance. Funding source will be Choir Boosters


Approved the out-of-state trip for Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High Wrestling Team, John Bonecutter, Jed Ott, and David Withrow, to travel to Alliance Ohio, from January 18 through January 19, 2013, to participate in a wrestling tournament. Funding source will be school athletic funds. Approved the out-of-state trip for Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High Wrestling Team, John Bonecutter, Jed Ott, and David Withrow, to travel to Kingsport, TN, December 7 through December 9, 2012, to participate in a wrestling tournament. Funding source will be school athletic funds.


Approved the following work based learning businesses, effective immediately through September 30, 2013: Jackson County Developmental Center, A New Beginning Hair Salon, Erica’s Hair Salon, K and D Family Diner, C.F. Morris Petroleum Services, LLC, Mason County Action Group, Camp Conley Mart, Amherst Industries, Henry Lewis Farm, and Short Cuts. Approved volunteers from Beale Elementary, Hannan Jr/Sr High, Leon Elementary, MCCC, New Haven Elementary, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, and Roosevelt Elementary for the 2012-13 school year. Approved CSO’s for Teen Classics. Approved CSO’s for Mythology.


Accepted the resignation of Jessica Snider, 7-12 Grade Social Studies Teacher, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, effective September 05, 2012. Approved the employment of Barbara Mitchell, as a Substitute Teacher for the 2012-13 school year. County will be the funding source. Approved the employment of Patrick Leggett, 7-12 Grade Counselor (210 days), Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, Job #502-896-P, effective September 13, 2012. County will be the funding source. Approved the employment of Rachel Workman, Title I Teacher, Ashton Elementary, Job #216-237-P, effective September 13, 2012. Title I will be the funding source.


Approved the employment of Timothy Reed, Vocational Agriculture Teacher, Hannan Jr/Sr High, Job #501-603-P, effective September 13, 2012. County will be the funding source. Approved the transfer of Willis Korb, 7-12 Grade English Teacher Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, to 7-12 Grade English Teacher, Wahama Jr/Sr High, Job #503-714-P, effective for the 2013-14 school year. County will be the funding source. Approved to post the following positions for Saturday School: Ashton Elementary (1 position), Beale Elementary (1 position), Point Pleasant Intermediate School (1 position), New Haven Elementary (1 position).


Approved the employment of Stacy Litchfield, Aide, Central Office Itinerant, Medical Leave of Absence, until regular employee returns, Job #001-043-I, effective September 13, 2012. Special Education will be the funding source. Approved the transfer of Tammy Westfall, Aide, Central Office Itinerant, to Aide, Central Office Itinerant, Job #001-054-C, effective September 13, 2012. Special Education will be the funding source. Approved the transfer of Valerie Freeman, Custodian, Point Pleasant Intermediate School, to Custodian, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High (220 days), Job #502-825-C, effective September 13, 2012. County will be the funding source.


Approved the transfer of Julie McWilliams, Custodian, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, to Custodian, Beale Elementary, (200 days), Job #201-259-C, effective September 13, 2012. County will be the funding source. Approved the transfer of James Stanley, Custodian, Wahama Jr/Sr High, to Custodian, Hannan Jr/Sr High, (200 days), Job #501-608-C, effective September 13, 2012. County will be the funding source. Approved the transfer of Sherry McDaniel, Bus Operator, Route 2043, to Bus Operator, Route 2034, Job #014-128-C, effective September 13, 2012. County will be the funding source.


Accepted the resignation of Jayna Lowery, Girls Track Coach, Hannan Jr/Sr High, effective September 12, 2012. Approved the employment of Jeffrey Roush, Jr. High Assistant Football Coach, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, (pending WVSSAC and WVDE Certification), Job #502-111-S, for the 2012-13 school year. County will be the funding source.


Approved the Service Agreement between Mason County Board of Education and Jackson County Developmental Center to provide school to work transition training for high school students for the 2012-13 school year. Special Education will be the funding source. Approved the ratification of orders issued, transfers, and supplements. Check Numbers #80928 through 81032; #81034 through 81060, totaling $380,693.77. Approved the ratification of Check #81033, to Franklin Dale Shobe, in the amount of $55.50. Board member Dale Shobe abstained from this item.


In addition to Superintendent Suzanne Dickens, board members present were Thomas Nunnery, Randy Searls, Greg Fowler, Paul Sayre, and Dale Shobe.


The Mason County Board of Education will meet again for a policy/regular business meeting at 4 p.m. on Sept. 20, at the Mason County Career Center.
