MERCERVILLE, Ohio — The South Gallia volleyball team started its 2012 campaign in style Monday night after rallying past visiting Fairland for a 25-27, 25-17, 25-23, 25-20 triumph in a non-conference matchup in Gallia County.

Both the host Lady Rebels (1-0) and Lady Dragons (0-1) kept things competitive throughout the season opener, as three of the four games were decided by five or fewer points. And despite dropping a heartbreaking two-point decision in the opening game, the Lady Rebels responded with clutch plays the rest of the night that ultimately led to the victory.

Sara Bailey led the SGHS service attack with 16 points and five aces, followed by Meghan Caldwell with 10 points and Ellie Bostic with seven points. Shelby Sanders had six points to the winning cause, while Alicia Hornsby and Brynn Adams both added five points apiece. Bailie Corbin had four points and Rebecca Rutt chipped in three points. Hornsby also had two aces for the hosts.

Ellie Bostic led the net attack with 13 kills, followed by Caldwell with 10 kills and Adams with seven kills. Katie Bostic also had three kills, and Ellie Bostic had one block for the victors.
