MASON COUNTY — Our Community’s Foundation - The Parkersburg Area Community Foundation (PACF) and the Regional Affiliates of Doddridge, Ritchie, Jackson, Mason Counties and the Little Kanawha Area – has extended the deadline for applications for its special Arts in Education grant program to Oct. 1.

With support from the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation, Our Community’s Foundation is offering grants to schools for projects that bring arts programming into schools to enhance or introduce science, technology, engineering and/or math (STEM) concepts and that help schools develop partnerships with artists/arts institutions and higher education. Projects must be completed by the end of the 2012-13 school year. Grants of up to $5,000 will be awarded.

To be eligible, schools must be located in Calhoun, Doddridge, Gilmer, Jackson, Mason, Pleasants, Ritchie, Roane, Wirt or Wood County, West Virginia. Priority consideration will be given to: projects that bring arts programming into schools to enhance STEM concepts and that advance state standards and curricular goals; projects that promote collaboration and develop school-community partnerships that help sustain interest in STEM education and the arts past the period of the grant; projects offering evidence of a 10% local match for the grant (the match can be in-kind or direct support); projects serving schools that did not receive an arts in education grant from the Foundation for the 2011-12 school year.

Full guidelines, outlining eligibility requirements and providing more details on the types of projects to be funded, are posted in the Grants section of the Foundation’s web site, www.pacfwv.com. The application process is an online process; the online application can be accessed in the Grants section of the Foundations’ web site.

The deadline for Community Action Grant applications has not changed; Community Action Grant applications must be submitted by Sept. 1.
