POINT PLEASANT — On Tuesday evening, the Mason County Board of Education met for a regular business meeting.


Superintendent Suzanne Dickens stated those speaking at the meeting were John Lehew, Director of Special Education for Mason County Schools. According to Dickens, Lehew gave a report on alternative school. Also speaking at the meeting was accountant Danielle Gillespie. Gillespie discussed information regarding the excess levy with the board.


There were also discussions on direct deposit for Mason County Schools employees, as well as discussions on job postings and the Superintendent’s goals. Dickens stated there was no action taken on any of the discussions.


Board members also approved the following agenda and personnel items:


Approved Minutes, Agenda #11-53, June 28, 2012. Approved Minutes, Agenda #12-01, July 2, 2012. Approved the transfer of Kayla Tucker, LD/BD/MI Teacher, New Haven Elementary, to LD/BD/MI Teacher, Roosevelt Elementary, Job #213-524-P, effective 2012-13 school year. Special Education will be the funding source. Board member Shobe recused himself from this item. Approved the transfer of Heather Thompson, Grade Six Teacher, New Haven Elementary, to Grade Five Teacher, Beale Elementary, Job #201-263-P, effective 2012-13 school year. County will be the funding source.


Approved the transfer of Angela Roach, Technology Integration Specialist, Central Office Itinerant, to Grade Four Teacher, Point Pleasant Intermediate School, Job #218-413-P effective 2012-13 school year. County will be the funding source. Approved the employment of Kimberly Bond, Music/Choir Teacher, New Haven Elementary, Job #210-383-P, effective 2012-13 school year. County will be the funding source. Rescinded the termination of Blair Bumgarner, Grade 6 Teacher, Leon Elementary, due to Reduction In Force, as the reason for the Reduction In Force no longer exists.


Rescinded the termination of Amy Grady, Grade 4 Teacher, Leon Elementary, due to Reduction In Force, as the reason for the Reduction In Force no longer exists. Approved to post the position of Technology Integration Specialist, for the 2012-13 school year. Title VI will be the funding source. Approved a list of bus operators from the transfer and subsequent assignment list and to assign all bus operators back to their bus routes with the changes noted for each individual route for the 2012-13 school year. Approved the Transfer of Timothy Thompson, Bus Operator, Route 103, to Route 2094, Job 014-154-C, effective 2012-13 school year. County will be the funding source. Approved the transfer of Paul Nichols, Bus Operator, Route 2085, to Route 2011, Job #014-115-C, effective 2012-13 school year. County will be the funding source. Approved to delete the position of Secretary, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High School, Job #502-808-C, effective 2012-13 school year. Approved to post the position of Secretary/Accountant (240 days), Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High School, effective 2012-13 school year. County will be the funding source.


Approved the employment of Marcus Rice, Healthy Choices Coordinator, Save the Children, Beale Elementary, Job #201-265-C, for the 2012-13 school year. Save the Children will be the funding source. Approved the employment of Tonya Boncutter, Early Childhood Coordinator, Save the Children, Beale Elementary, Job #201-263-C, for the 2012-13 school year. Save the Children will be the funding source. Approved the employment of Amilda Noll Thompson, Literacy Tutor, Save The Children, Beale Elementary, Job #201-265-PS, effective 2012-13 school year. Save The Children will be the funding source.


Approved the employment of Danetta Hatfield, Literacy Assistant, Save the Children, Beale Elementary, Job #201-264-C, effective for the 2012-13 school year. Save The Children will be the funding source. Approved the employment of Stephen Littlepage, Boys Assistant Varsity 9th Grade Basketball Coach, (pending certification), Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, Job #502-114-S, for the 2012-13 school year. County will be the funding source. Approved the employment of Rick Slack, Boys Assistant Varsity/JV Basketball (pending certification), Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, Job #502-113-S, for the 2012-13 school year. County will be the funding source.


Approved the ratification of checks Number 80444 thru 80505; 80507 thru 80517; 80519 thru 80525; 80527 thru 80546, totaling $205,250.53. Approved the ratification of Check #80506, to Greg Fowler, in the amount of $218.16. Board members Fowler abstained from this item. Approved the ratification of Check #80518, to Thomas Nunnery, in the amount of $53.86. Board member Nunnery abstained from this item. Approved the ratification of Check #80526, to Paul Sayre, in the amount of $200.72. Board member Sayre abstained from this item.


In addition to Superintendent Dickens, board members attending were Thomas Nunnery, Randy Searls, Dale Shobe, Paul Sayre, Greg Fowler.


The Mason County Board of Education will meet for a Policy/Regular Business meeting at 4 p.m. on on July 19, at the Mason County Career Center.
