Boyd Lee Coleman, 59, of Fraziers Bottom, died Monday, Feb. 2, 2009 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was a 1967 graduate of Point Pleasant High School and a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. He was a 30-year member of International Union of Operating Engineers Local No. 132 and the American Legion Post No. 23 of Point Pleasant.

Boyd was born March 3, 1949 in Fraziers Bottom to the late Wilbert Coleman and Elsie (Saxton) Coleman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, two sisters and a special nephew, Joey Patterson.

Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Molly Jo Anna (Patterson) Coleman, whom he married Oct. 8, 1968; one son, Dewey Lee Coleman of Fraziers Bottom; two daughters and son-in-law, Amy (Aubrey) Davis of Gallipolis Ferry and Brandy Dawn McCoy of Henderson; a niece who he helped rear and loved as his own; foster daughter, Margaret Slenker, and foster son, Harry L. Bailey, both of Fraziers Bottom; and three precious grandchildren, Abigail Rose Wolford, who was the light of his life, Zachary Boyd and Connor Allen Davis of Gallipolis Ferry. He also is survived by a sister, Sue Cutright of Charleston; brothers and sisters-in-law, Roy (Dorothy) Coleman of Troy, Ohio, Ray Coleman of Carroll, Ohio, Paul (Linda) Coleman of Grove City, Ohio, Pat Coleman of Fletcher, Ohio, and Phyllis Coleman of Fraziers Bottom, who stood by Boyd and Molly during this difficult time; two nephews, Steve (Robin “Twiggy”) Coleman of Bradford, Ohio, and Chuck (Vicki) Kidd of Mullens, who were the glory of Boyd’s life; and two special great-nephews and niece, Luke Coleman, Jamie Coleman and Hank Coleman of Bradford.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6 at Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant with Pastor Carl “Boxer” Swisher officiating. Burial will follow in Concord Cemetery in Henderson, with military graveside rites given by American Legion Post 23 of Point Pleasant. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
