School board approves agenda items

POINT PLEASANT — At a recent meeting of the Mason County School Board, the following agenda and personnel items were approved.

Approved Minutes, Agenda #11-40, April 10, 2012. Approved a continuance of the Policy Wavier with the State Board of Education (policy #2510, section 5. 6. 6), for Dual Credit Classes to meet graduation requirements. Approved volunteers from New Haven Elementary for the remainder of the 2011-12 school year.

Approved a waiver for Sally Darst to substitute in an area of critical need as Counselor with Mason County Schools for 2011-12 school year. Accepted the resignation of Sharon Miller, Speech Pathologist, Point Pleasant Primary School, effective June 30, 2012, due to retirement. Approved Regular Employee Status for Melissa Kincaid- March 9, 2012; Nathan Reese-March 19, 2012; Jan Safford-March 21, 2012; Jessica Durst-March 26, 2012.

Approved the employment of the following applicants: Joshua Eddy, Kevin Green, and Dustin Stover, as substitute teachers, for the 2011-12 school year. Approved the employment of Ashley Beaver, Counselor, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, Job #502-896-P, effective for the 2012-13 school year. County will be the funding source. Approved the employment of Melissa Deal, Counselor, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High School, Job #502-806-P, effective May 7, 2012. County will be the funding source.

Approved the employment of Jan Safford, Art Teacher, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High School, Job #502-809-P, effective 2012-13 school year. County will be the funding source. Approved the transfer of Stacy Bissell, Grade Six Teacher, New Haven Elementary, to Principal, New Haven Elementary, Job #210-351- P, effective June 4, 2012. County will be the funding source.

Approved the Family Medical Leave for Teresa Pyatt, Cook, Roosevelt Elementary School, for a maximum of 12 weeks leave. Approved the transfer of Brent Blake, Bus Operator, to Mechanic, Transportation Department, Job # 014-105-C, effective April 23, 2012 . County will be the funding source. Accepted the resignation of Richard Slain, Head Varsity Basketball Coach, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, effective April 20, 2012.

Approved and passed a formal resolution accepting the conditions of the contract with the WV Development Office to accept a Community Participation Grant in the amount of $6,250.00, to purchase art supplies for the art program plus equipment for the athletic concession stand.

In addition to Superintendent Suzanne Dickens, board members present were Michael Cottrill, Thomas Nunnery, Randy Searls, Dale Shobe, and Matthew Thompson. The Mason County School Board will meet again for a regular business meeting at 6 p.m. on April 24 at the Mason County Career Center.
