POINT PLEASANT — On Wednesday evening, the Mason County School Board finalized the proposed levy rates for the 2012-13 school year.

Gary Hendricks, Chief School Business Official/Treasurer presented the rates as previously discussed and advertised to the members of the school board. The rates for the levies are as follows: Current Levy — Class I-19.4, Class II-38.8, Class III-77.6, Class IV-77.6; Bond Levy — Class I-3.41, Class II 6.82, Class III-13.64, Class IV-13.64.

Board members also discussed that several citizens had concerns of the levy rates increasing due to an unclear report in a previous edition. Hendricks clarified the current levy rates are not being increased; they are only applying the rates that have already been passed by voters in 2008. Board members previously discussed several “what if” situations, but no increases are currently taking place.

“We’re moving in the right direction,” Hendricks said. Hendricks added that he will be preparing the budget for the upcoming school year during the month of May.

The rate sheet for the current levies is available to view by downloading it from this meeting’s agenda at www.edline.net/pages/mcboewv.

In addition to Superintendent Suzanne Dickens, board members present were Michael Cottrill, Thomas Nunnery, Randy Searls, Dale Shobe, and Matthew Thompson. The Mason County School Board will meet again at 6 p.m. tonight at the Mason County Career Center for a policy/regular business meeting.
