George William Burdette, 92, of Point Pleasant, died Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Arbors in Gallipolis, Ohio.

He was born May 11, 1919, in Point Pleasant, a son of the late George L. Burdette and Lenna E. (Rayburn) Burdette.

Mr. Burdette was retired from the Kaiser Aluminum Plant, had worked at the Marietta Manufacturing Company, and was a farmer. He attended the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, had served in the U.S. Navy during which time he was stationed at Great Lakes, Illinois and Hastings, Nebraska, and during his youth he attended the CC Camp in Marlinton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, James W. “Woodie” Burdette, and Robert E. Burdette; sisters, Kathryn Elizabeth Faudree, Virginia Weaver, and Edith May Burdette; and a granddaughter, Angela Sue Austin.

George William is survived by his wife, Freda Ann (Fauver) Burdette of Point Pleasant; daughters, Patricia “Patsy” (Blaine) Thompson of Washington, W.Va., Judy Burdette of Point Pleasant, and Karen (Marvin) Austin of Nixa, Miss.; a son, James W. “Bill” (Sheila) Burdette of Salt Rock; seven grandchildren, Brian Thompson, Teresa Grogg, Jeff Austin, Kevin Austin, Malia Richmond, Michael Burdette, and Ashley Burdette; and eleven great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 4, 2012 at the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Point Pleasant with Rev. Wilmer (Bud) Richmond officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Hills Cemetery in Letart. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Saturday at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, and one hour prior to the service at the church Sunday.
