CENTENARY — Both teams were looking for their first win of the season Tuesday night, but neither team came away with it.

Despite several close games this year, both Gallia Academy and Ohio Valley Christian came into Tuesday nights matchup looking for win number one on the season, but both teams were left still looking for that elusive win after playing to a scoreless deadlock Tuesday in Centenary.

And the biggest reason for the lack of scoring was a tremendous night from the two keepers.

Ohio Valley Christian’s Peter Carman came away with 29 saves during Tuesday’s contest as the deadly GAHS attack produced a 39-10 advantage in shots on goal — none of which hit their mark thanks to Carman and a much improved Defender defense.

Along with Carman, Joe Beaver stepped up big for the Defenders on defense and even had a save when Carman left the net.

Gallia Academy’s Allie Troester made sure OVCS didn’t score either, coming away with eight saves on the night.

Of the 39 shots on goal, Zeke Maher and Corey Eberhard stayed busy with a majority of those shots as Eberhard fired off nine shots and Maher eight. Cody Robinson added six shots on goal for the Blue and White.

Both teams will continue their quest for win number one later this week as Gallia Academy hosts Warren on Thursday and OVCS welcomes Teays Valley Christian on Friday.

Ravenswood downs Point

POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. — It was a tale of two halves Tuesday night as the Point Pleasant girls soccer team opened up with the advantage but gave way to visiting Ravenswood in the second half in a 1-0 Devilettes victory.

The Lady Knights (3-4-1) controlled the game from the opening kick but couldn’t find any offense with several near misses as the two teams played to a scoreless deadlock at the break. But in the second half Ravenswood (5-2) swiftly took control and finally came through with a controversial goal midway through the half.

Point Pleasant goalkeeper Miranda Thompson was hit while trying to cover the ball on a Ravenswood corner kick and Mollie Ritchie took advantage to knock in the goal for a 1-0 RHS lead.

Despite the disappointing goal the Lady Knights responded and produced their best scoring opportunity of the night moments later when Katie Wilson crossed the ball to Sarah Cochran for a one-on-one opportunity, but the Ravenswood keeper came through in keeping the home team off the board.

Despite the controversial goal, Thompson still came up with four big saves while Tessa Tarker also came up big on defense to help prevent the Devilette lead from swelling any larger.

Ravenswood held a 9-7 advantage in shots on goal.

The loss knocks Point Pleasant back under .500 on the season as the offensive woes continue for the Red and Black. The Lady Knights couldn’t find any offense last Saturday either despite holding a commanding 16-3 advantage in shots on goal in a scoreless tie with Lincoln County.

Point Pleasant will be looking to get its offense going once again when it travels to Herbert Hoover Thursday night.
