ASHTON, W.Va. — It has been a long season for the Hannan football team, but hopes are high that with two games left, they can turn things around.

The Wildcats have been outscored 396-32 so far this season but have two games remaining on the schedule against teams that are very similar in size and ability to the Wildcats.

Up first — Montcalm.

The Generals are 1-7 on the season with their lone win coming against Burch during Week 4 in a 14-12 victory. Other than that the team has losses to Big Creek (42-9), Williamson (62-0), Hurley (31-8), Tug Valley (65-0), Pocahontas (56-6), Meadow Bridge (33-14) and Roanoke Catholic (66-0).

And like Hannan, Montcalm is being outscored 367-51.

But unlike Montcalm, Hannan has yet to win a game and has scored in only four of its eight games. The Wildcats have losses to Tug Valley (58-7), Bishop Donahue (58-6), Gilmer County (38-13), Wirt County (62-0), Wahama (55-0), Southern (39-0), Van (46-0) and South Gallia (40-6).

On average Hannan is being outscored 46-4 this year while Montcalm is being outscored 45.8-6.3 on average.

But the biggest thing the Wildcats will have in their favor Friday night is homecoming in Ashton. Historically HHS has had its best performances during homecoming games, winning an exciting 26-24 victory over Big Creek last season and falling in a narrow 14-6 game to Harts during homecoming 2005.

And at this point in the season, with Hannan’s closest game being a disappointing 25 points, the Wildcats could really use a closely fought contest, even in a loss.

Hannan will also be trying to shake off its current losing streak of nine straight games, hopefully before the year is out as the team is just getting over a 29-game losing skid from just two years ago.

Friday’s homecoming contest will complete a three game home stand by the Wildcats before finishing up the year on the road.

The Wildcats will also have a solid chance at getting a win next week as well when they travel to Hundred (1-7).

Hannan will kick-off its homecoming contest against the Wildcats 7:30 p.m. Friday night.
