POINT PLEASANT — Four-year old Kaleb Rapp celebrated his fifth birthday on Sunday, but did not spend it at home. Instead, the birthday boy left for Columbus to go to Ohio State University Hospital to schedule his treatment plan for his brain cancer, Medulloblastoma.

The son of Bart Rapp and Missy (Simpkins) Rapp of Bidwell, Ohio captured of hearts when his disease was heard of, and since, family, friends and the community has opened their arms to lift up this little boy and help in any way possible.

With a Web site (www.helpkaleb.com), anyone can find out about upcoming events that will benefit the medical fund for Kaleb and his family.

Just recently, Brenda Whittington of Apple Grove donated a handmade queen size quilt for a raffle. And 100 percent of the proceeds will go towards medical expenses.

Other new information posted on the site is that wristband and lanyards will soon be sold. And a donation button for PayPal accounts has been created with the money going straight into the savings fund set up at Ohio Valley Bank.

The community also is rallying together to support Kaleb. Next Saturday, April 23, the Grace Baptist Church, where Kaleb is a member, will hold a benefit gospel sing, spaghetti dinner and silent auction beginning at noon. Held at the West Virginia State Farm Museum, the event will give all proceeds towards the fund for medical bills. Admission is $10 a person.

And another event has already been set for May 14. A golf benefit will be held in Mason at the Riverside Golf Course with registration at 7:30 a.m. and the event starting at 8:30 a.m. It will be held rain or shine. To register, please contact Wendy Lilly at 304-593-3045, Karen Meadows at 304-675-5216, or Mike Barton at 304-675-6736. A total of 50 percent will go to Kaleb and his family.

Contributions also may be made straight to OVB. They can be sent to Help Kaleb, P.O. Box 110, Point Pleasant, WV 25550.
