POINT PLEASANT — From the start of the season the new Point Pleasant Big Blacks have shown that this isn’t the same Point team of old.

And they continued to display their new colors Tuesday night.

Despite a 13 point halftime deficit, the Big Blacks battled back and tied the contest against Sissonville with six minutes to go before a late surge by the Indians propelled the visitors to a 56-51 victory Tuesday night in Point Pleasant.

In years past a 13 point halftime deficit would have almost assuredly spelled defeat for Point Pleasant (2-2), but this year’s team has breathed new life into the program and it has shown up in the on-court effort.

Senior B.J. Lloyd led the second half rally with 17 points including a trio of three pointers, but his effort came up just short as Sissonville put the game away with a series of clutch shots in the final moments of the fourth quarter.

The Indians (4-2) were led in scoring by Caleb Keller with 19 points, while Kyle Snyder added 15 markers. Cody Miller was next for the visitors with seven points, followed by Lucas Walker with six points, Robbie Hamilton with four points, Chris Kelly with three points and Josh Holley with two points.

Behind Lloyd, Tyler Deal was next with 11 points. Tyson Jones added six points and a team-high eight rebounds, Kylenn Criste had five points, Jacob Templeton had four points and seven boards and Drake Nolan, Nathan Wedge, JeWaan Williams and Cody Greathouse had two points apiece.

Point Pleasant came out a little flat to start Tuesday’s contest as the Indians jumped out front early and pushed their lead to 19-14 at the end of one quarter.

Sissonville then caught fire in the second, holding Point Pleasant to just eight points while posting 16 of its own to extend the Indian lead to 35-22 at the break.

In the second half the Big Blacks came out with an intensity not seen in the first 16 minutes, storming out to a 15-10 advantage to cut the lead to 45-37 entering the fourth quarter.

Once there Point Pleasant continued its hot shooting, eventually tying the game at 47 apiece with six minutes to go thanks to a 10-2 run to open the quarter.

But as the rest of the frame wore one, Sissonville managed to find a few open looks and was able to put together a run of its own and closed the game with a 9-4 advantage to take home the five-point win.

While the varsity contest saw a disappointing end to an otherwise entertaining game, the junior varsity squad locked up their second straight win 40-31 over Sissonville. Williams led the reserves with eight points.

Point Pleasant will now gear up for a trip to Wayne Friday night. The JV contest is scheduled to being at 6 p.m.
