POINT PLEASANT — The size of the PPJ/SHS Choir has doubled in a year’s time with 176 members raising the volume on this weekend’s Second Annual Dinner Theater.
The theme is “Knight at the Movies” and performances are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. this Sunday at the Wedge Auditorium at PPJ/SHS. Dinners, which are prior to performances, are already sold out but admission tickets to the show only are still available and are $7 each.
On Thursday afternoon, choir members were doing a run-through of the entire show, featuring songs from movie soundtracks, including “Hairspray” and many more.
Choir Director Crystal Hendricks said some of the songs being sung by the full choir are “Happy” and the show will close with “Imagine.” Also, several show ensemble songs will also be included and the entire performance will be around two hours. Other songs will include “Old Time Rock and Roll”, “Greased Lighting”, “Joyful Joyful”, “Eye of the Tiger”, “On Top of the World”, “Ghostbusters” and many more.
In addition, there will be a live pit band and special lighting showcasing choir members in grades 7-12.
Though this is only the second annual dinner theater hosted by the current incarnation of the school’s choir, Hendricks said the tradition goes back to one started in 1984 by long-time PPHS Band and Choir Director Gary Stewart, when he organized a dinner theater with his choir at that time.
