POINT PLEASANT — This coming Saturday, food lovers and cyclists will have the chance to come together over good barbecue and a bike ride at the inaugural Bikes and BBQ event.
The Point Pleasant Bike Trail Committee and the City of Point Pleasant’s Parks and Recreation Department are hosting the event at Gunn Park on Fourth Street, home of the Mothman Statue.
BBQ contestants are still welcome to sign up, and will need to register at 6:30 a.m. Saturday at Gunn Park, and can do so for three different categories. The first category is pulled pork, which can be prepared beforehand and will be judged by the general public. The second two categories will be officially judged, and must be prepared that day. Judging will take place in the afternoon. These two categories will be pork ribs and chicken quarters.
Tickets can be purchased for $5 that day to sample the BBQ. Live music will also be provided by Bill Golden, performing a wide variety of music for patrons of the event.
Three bike rides will take place the same day, departing from fourth street. The first two will depart at 9 a.m., with sign up starting at 8 a.m. These rides will cover most of Mason County, with 26 and 46 mile options. A third option will be a leisurely six-mile ride through town, registration starting at 10 a.m. and bikes rolling out at 11 a.m. BBQ tickets are included for those going on the bike ride. Tickets for the bike rides are $30, reduced to $15 for riders under 16.
