RIO GRANDE — Ground was broken at the University of Rio Grande on Thursday for an upcoming addition to the nursing program.

The new center will serve as a simulation training center for those in the allied medical fields, intended to better prepare students for entry into a difficult profession.

Present for the groundbreaking, were board members of both the university and URG’s community college, as well as URG President Dr. Michelle Johnston. Many students of the medical programs, as well as professors were also present for the ceremony.

“We are very, very excited about the new simulation center as a way to enhance the education of our students.” Johnston explained.

She went on to say funding for these renovations and remodeling are provided through regular state funding for colleges and universities through the State of Ohio.

“This is part of a much larger plan to continue to increase the quality of the educational programs here at Rio Grande,” she added.

She also mentioned how important it is to know that this is not a project in and of itself, but a part of the ongoing program of improving URG through more initiatives like this one.

“With the help of our community, we hope to continue expanding and improving for our students,” Johnston said.

The simulation center will be housed in the Davis Career Center on campus as part of the allied health programs at Rio. It is expected to be completed this fall, with the first classes being held fall semester of 2018. For more information, contact URG.
