POINT PLEASANT — Mason County has plenty to offer this year when it comes to tourism with the official calendar of events being released this week by the Mason County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Dennis Bellamy, director of the CVB, said new to the schedule this year is the arrival of sternwheeler Queen of the Mississippi, which will be docking at Riverfront Park in July. The complete listing of tourism events from April through December is as follows:
April 22 – Ladies’ Hat/ Accessories Seminar (Fort Randolph at Krodel Park) 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. For all skill levels.
May 6 – 7 – Antique Gas Engine Show (West Virginia State Farm Museum, 1458 Fairground Road) 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., exhibits of working saw mill, displays of small engines and antique tractors, over 30 historic buildings and numerous other exhibits. Antique and Farm Tractor Pull 1 p.m.; Sunday, May 7, church services 9 a.m., Gospel sing 1:30 p.m., Museum Country Kitchen and Country Store open. Camping available. Admission is free.
May 19 – Point Pleasant River Museum’s Shanty Boat Night (Point Pleasant First Church of God). The evening will begin with dinner being served at 6:30 p.m. May 19-21—Siege of Fort Randolph (Fort Randolph at Krodel Park) 18th annual event, Friday, May 19, school tours 9 a.m. – 2 p.m., gates close at 5 p.m.; Saturday, May 20, demonstrations and frontier life skills in fort and nearby Indian village, 9 a.m. to noon, trade blanket shopping, 9 a.m. – 11 a.m., flag raising, 10 a.m., magistrate court, 12:30 p.m.; “The Siege of Fort Randolph, The Death of Cornstalk” outdoor drama at 2 p.m., admission fee for drama $3, children under 6 free; running the gauntlet at the Indian village, 3 p.m., auction at 4 p.m., gates close at 5 p.m.; Sunday, May 21, gates open at 9 a.m., church service, 10 a.m., gates close 2 p.m.
May 27 – Amvets Memorial Day Parade (Main Street) 1 p.m., line-up from 12:30 p.m. at the north end of Main Street.
June 3 – Antique Tractor Pull (WV State Farm Museum, 1458 Fairground Road) 5 p.m., admission free. June 3 – Bend Area C.A.R.E./Budweiser Catfish Tournament (Mason Park and Levy, Mason,) tournament hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 10 – Going “Colonial” Workshop (Fort Randolph at Krodel Park) 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. June 10 – Bikes & BBQ (downtown Point Pleasant at Gunn Park) 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., inaugural Backyard BBQ Cook-off and Bike Tour of Mason County. June 29-July 1 -Annual Point Pleasant Regatta (Riverfront Park, Tu-Endie-Wei State Park and Main Street), this is the regatta’a 27th year.
July 1 – Antique Tractor Pull (WV State Farm Museum, 1458 Fairground Road) 5 p.m., admission is free. July 1 – Point Pleasant Regatta Parade (Main Street) 11 a.m., line-up at 10 a.m. at former Central School. July 1 – Point Pleasant Fourth of July Fireworks, 10 p.m. July 4 – New Haven/Mason July 4th Parade (New Haven and Mason), 11 a.m., line-up at the Community Center in New Haven. July 4 – Docking of the Queen of the Mississippi (Riverfront Park) 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. July 8 – Children’s “Liberty Day” Adventure (Fort Randolph at Krodel Park) 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. July 10 – Docking of the Queen of the Mississippi (Riverfront Park) 7 a.m. -10 p.m. July 24 – River Museum’s Annual Belle of Cincinnati Dinner Cruise (Riverfront Park) 6:30-9:30 p.m. July 29 – WV State Farm Museum’s Tractor Parade and Show Parade of tractors start at 9 a.m. from the WV State Farm Museum and travels to Point Pleasant and back to the farm museum.
Aug. 5 – Mason County Fair Parade (downtown Point Pleasant) noon, line-up starts at 10 a.m., 2nd Street, Point Pleasant. Aug. 7-12 – Mason County Fair (Fairgrounds Road) 9 a.m. – 11 p.m. each day. Aug. 12 – Hearth Side Baking (Fort Randolph at Krodel Park) 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Aug. 18 – Aug. 20, Mothman Geo Trail (downtown Point Pleasant), the GeoTrail will be a series of Geocaches all relating to the Mothman.
Sept. 1 – 2, Tribute to the River (Riverfront Park), tow boat tours, line throw, children’s games and more, free admission. Sept. 2 – Antique Tractor Pull (WV State Farm Museum, 1458 Fairground Road) 5 p.m., free admission. Sept. 16 – 17 – Annual Mothman Festival (Main Street, Riverfront Park) 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Oct. 6 – 8, Battle Days (Tu-Endie-Wei State ParK) Friday, Oct. 6: School tours, craft demonstrations and encampments. “ History in the Round” with historical re-enactors in the evening. Saturday, Oct. 7, 11 a.m., Battle Days Parade, downtown Point Pleasant, lineup at 10 a.m., former Central School. Oct. 7 – 8, Country Fall Festival (WV State Farm Museum, 1458 Fairground Road) 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Antique Gas Engine Show, CEOS Quilt Show, Antique Bottle Show, and the Gravely Tractor Club of America Mow-In, entertainment, free admission. Oct. 28 – Harvest Fest/Tales in the Tavern (Fort Randolph at Krodel Park) 4 p.m. – 8 p.m.
