BIDWELL, Ohio — The Lady Raiders are certainly glad that week is over.
The River Valley volleyball team suffered its third straight-games loss in as many days on Thursday, falling to Tri-Valley Conference Hocking Division guest Wellston.
The Lady Raiders (2-12, 0-7) led 5-4 early in the opening game, but once the Lady Rockets took the lead at 6-5 — as part of a 5-0 run — the guests never relinquished the advantage, rolling to the 25-20 victory in the opener.
RVHS led by as much as seven points in the second game, but Wellston again battled back to take the lead at 19-18, as part of a 6-0 WHS run. The Lady Rockets claimed the second game by a 25-20 count, moving ahead 2-0 in the match.
Wellston claimed the first six points and never trailed in the third game, capping off the 3-0 sweep with a 25-18 win.
River Valley’s service attack was led by senior Angel Toler, who finished with eight points and four aces. Rayanna Adkins and Carly Gilmore both posted six points, including one ace by Gilmore. Jaden Neal marked four points and one ace, while Emily Adkins and Isabella Mershon both contributed two service points to the RVHS cause.
Gilmore led the hosts at the net with three kills and three blocks, while Mershon added three kills and one block. Toler, Neal and Emily Adkins each had two kills in the setback, while Toler led the defensive effort with 34 digs.
The Lady Rockets also claimed a 3-0 victory over RVHS on August 30, in Jackson County.
River Valley will hope to end its five-match losing skid on Tuesday, when the Silver and Black invade Nelsonville-York.
