TUPPERS PLAINS, Ohio — Getting back on track.
The Eastern softball team snapped a three-game losing skid in impressive fashion Monday night following a 29-0 mercy-rule victory over visiting South Gallia in a Tri-Valley Conference Hocking Division matchup at Don Jackson Field in Meigs County.
The host Lady Eagles (10-4, 9-1 TVC Hocking) sent double-digit batters to the plate in the first three innings and scored a season-high in runs while also claiming a sweep of the Lady Rebels (1-9, 1-9). EHS also earned a 24-0 five-inning victory in Mercerville back on March 31.
Eastern sent 14 batters to the plate in the top of the first, which resulted in 10 runs on six hits, three walks, a hit batsman and an error.
The hosts followed by sending another 14 batters to the plate in the second, which yielded seven runs on four hits and two errors. The big blow of that frame was delivered by Sidney Cook, who belted a three-run homer with two outs in the inning.
Leading 17-0 through two complete, the Lady Eagles had 12 batters come to the plate in the top of the third — which led to eight runs on three hits, five walks and an error for a 25-0 edge midway through three.
EHS plated four runs in the fourth after sending nine batters to the plate, which ultimately wrapped up the 29-run triumph. Emmalea Durst also started the fourth frame with a solo homer.
The Lady Eagles outhit SGHS by a 15-2 overall margin and committed none of the five errors in the contest. Both teams also left four runners apiece stranded on base.
EHS used four pitchers in the contest, with that host quartet collectively allowing only two hits and two walks over five innings while striking out nine.
Durst led the Lady Eagles with three hits, six RBIs and five runs scored, while Cook, Hannah Bailey, Kayla Tripp and Katlyn Barber each added two safeties apiece. Cook also drove in five RBIs for the victors, while Cera Grueser, Allison Barber, Mollie Maxon and Abbie Hawley also had a hit apiece.
Maxon and Taylynn Rockhold each scored three runs, with Bailey, Grueser, Hawley, Elaina Hensley, Katlyn Barber and Annalisa Boano all scoring two runs apiece.
