MERCERVILLE, Ohio — So much for gracious guests.
The Wahama softball team took out a little frustration on Thursday night, as the Lady Falcons rolled to a 28-2 victory over Tri-Valley Conference Hocking Division host South Gallia.
The Lady Falcons (9-4, 6-2 TVC Hocking) wasted no time taking the lead, as they scored four runs on two hits, four walks and one error in the top of the first inning. WHS broke the game wide open in the top of the second frame, scoring 13 runs on seven hits, four free passes and two errors.
With the WHS starters pulled from the game, the Lady Falcons scored seven times in the top of the third inning, after combining four hits with two walks and three errors.
South Gallia (0-6, 0-6) scored its only two runs of the night in the bottom of the third frame, after two hits, one walk and one error.
Wahama capped off the 26-run victory with three runs in the fourth inning and one more in the fifth.
WHS junior Taylor McGrew struck out nine and earned the pitching victory for the Red and White, while Keirsten Howell suffered the setback in the circle for South Gallia.
Emmalee Broyles, Ashtyn Russell and Faith Stewart each had two singles to lead Wahama at the plate, while Rachel Roque tripled once. Taylor Warden and Morgan Harrison both doubled once, while Emily VanMatre, Amara Helton, Autumn Baker, Baylee Hoffman, Michela Williamson, Hannah Billups, Makinley Bumgarner and Alexis Mick each had one single in the win.
Russell, Stewart and Grace Haddox scored three runs apiece to lead WHS, while Roque, Bumgarner, Mick and Logan Eades each scored twice. Harrison, VanMatre, Warden, Helton, Baker, Hoffman, Williamson, Billups and Madison Council each scored once for the victors.
Stewart had a game-best three runs batted in, Russell, VanMatre, Warden, Broyles, Mick and Cynthia Hendrick each added two RBI, while Harrison, Helton, Baker, Hoffman, Williamson and Billups each had one.
Olivia Hornsby and Taylor Burnette each singled once for the Lady Rebels, while Maddie Simpson and Erin Evans both scored once.
Wahama committed one error in the win, while SGHS had six.
The Lady Falcons also topped South Gallia on March 28, by a 13-0 count, in Hartford.
Wahama is scheduled to travel to Miller in TVC Hocking play on Monday, the same day that the Lady Rebels will visit Eastern.
