CENTENARY, Ohio — For freshman Sarah Watts, it’s quite possibly the first of four Ohio Valley Conference championships.

For the Greenlee twins, it was a Senior Night not to be forgotten anytime soon.

That’s because Gallia Academy’s top runners, on both the boys and girls sides, captured top-three performances as part of the annual OVC cross country meet — which took place on Tuesday at Gallia Academy High School.

Watts won the individual race for the high school girls, completing the 5K distance on the home course in 20 minutes and 10 seconds.

She crossed the finish line ahead of junior McKenna Pannell (20:18) of Fairland and freshman Camryn Miller (20:19) of Rock Hill by eight and nine seconds respectively.

Watts was, of course, the lead runner for All-OVC honors — which also included Blue Angel sophomore Brooke Johnson, who was eighth in 21:32.

On the boys side, senior twin brothers Kyle Greenlee (16:49) and Caleb Greenlee (16:53) — in their final race on the GAHS home course — gained runner-up and third-place honors respectively, and ended up only four seconds apart.

The Greenlees trailed only individual race winner Aiden Kammler of Portsmouth, who won the race in a fast 16 minutes and 31 seconds.

The All-OVC honorees are those which finish in the top quarter of their individual race, as the remaining scoring Blue Angels all placed between 17th and 25th, while the remaining scoring Blue Devils all crossed between 21st and 31st.

There were 73 runners in the boys high school race, which preceded the girls high school run, which fielded 49.

The final five Blue Angel counting times were those of sophomore Abby Johnson (17th in 24:45), junior Abby Cremeans (21st in 25:51), senior Cassidy Starnes (23rd in 26:47), sophomore Karsyn Shamblin (24th in 27:14) and sophomore Grace Montgomery (25th in 27:17).

The final five Blue Devil counting scores were those of senior Kobe Cochran (21st in 19:19), senior Ezra Blain (23rd in 19:27), freshman Tristan Crisenbery (27th in 19:35), freshman Chancy Odom (30th in 19:52) and senior Ethan Rider (31st in 20:15).

The Blue Angels were the team runner-up of four teams with a 57, as Fairland finished first with a 26.

The other two full girls teams were Rock Hill (71) and Ironton (87), as Coal Grove sported two individuals.

Lynsey Shipley, a senior from Portsmouth, placed fifth overall in 21:09 as the Lady Trojans’ lone representative.

Rock Hill won the boys team title with a score of 32, followed by Fairland with a 47 and Gallia Academy with a 58.

South Point placed fourth with a 120 and Ironton fifth with a 136, as Coal Grove and Portsmouth had three runners apiece.

In order to record a team score, a club must have at least five runners compete — and finish the race.
