RICHMOND DALE, Ohio — The River Valley Raiders placed third, the Gallia Academy Blue Angels finished fifth, and GAHS freshman Sara Watts won the girls individual race as part of the annual Aaron Reed Memorial Cross Country Invitational on Saturday at Southeastern High School.

Gallia Academy and River Valley were the only Ohio Valley Publishing area teams to participate, as 18 boys teams and 18 girls teams registered team scores — with other schools only competing on an individual basis.

Speaking of individuals, there were three boys and three girls representing either GAHS or RVHS which placed among the top 10.

The Raider men took third with a team score of 138, and narrowly trailed Waverly — with a 135 — for the team runner-up.

Leesburg Fairfield ran away with the team championships, posting a score of 48 for the boys and 103 for the girls.

The Blue Devils secured seventh with a score of 183, as Miami Trace (147) finished fourth, Piketon (154) fifth and Alexander (158) sixth.

The remaining 11 squads all tallied a team score of 224 or higher.

Nathaniel Abbott returned to action to pace River Valley, as the senior placed 10th with a time of 17 minutes and 52 seconds.

Kyle Coen (24th in 18:47), George Rickett (25th in 18:48) and Rory Twyman (29th in 18:52) all crossed within five seconds of each other, while the Raiders’ fifth counting score was courtesy of Cole Franklin (56th in 20:09).

Austin Livingston (88th in 21:17) and Ethan Cline (94th in 21:34) were River Valley’s other two scores.

For the Blue Devils, senior twins Caleb Greenlee and Kyle Greenlee once again led the way, finishing back-to-back in fifth-place and sixth-place respectively.

Caleb Greenlee completed the 5K course in 17:31, while Kyle Greenlee crossed the line just nine seconds later.

The remaining Blue Devil scores included Ezra Blain (57th in 20:11), Ethan Rider (66th in 20:35), Grant Smith (69th in 20:38), Oliver Davies (72nd in 20:40) and Logan Blouir (85th in 21:09).

There were 195 runners in the boys high school race, as Keifer Mosmeier of Logan Elm captured the individual championship in 16 minutes and 46 seconds.

Watts won the girls race of 134 runners, and completed the 5K distance in 20 minutes and 56 seconds.

In fact, she was the only individual on the girls side under an even 21 minutes.

As a team, the Blue Angels earned a score of 158, trailing only champion Fairfield (103), runner-up Westfall (127), third-place Waverly (139) and fourth-place Circleville (157).

River Valley tied Jackson with a score of 196, as the Raiders took eighth and the Ironladies ninth based on the sixth-score tiebreaker.

In between Gallia Academy and River Valley were sixth-place Logan Elm (164) and seventh-place Alexander (179).

The remaining eight clubs all posted a team score of 227 or greater.

Joining Watts among the top-10 for the Blue Angels was sophomore Brooke Johnson, who finished in eighth overall in 22:29.

The other five Gallia Academy scores included Abby Johnson (33rd in 25:04), Abby Cremeans (55th in 27:36), Maddie Stewart (68th in 29:13), Karsyn Shamblin (74th in 29:45) and Carlin Short (90th in 30:58).

The Lady Raiders were led by senior Kenzie Baker, who placed seventh overall in 22 minutes and four seconds.

Hannah Culpepper placed 13th in 23:12, while Josie Jones was 39th in 25:37.

The remaining River Valley scorers included Julia Nutter (70th in 29:31), Natosha Rankin (75th in 29:48), Connie Stewart (86th in 30:16) and Lexi Stout (110th in 34:09).
