Blue Angels win quad match

LOGAN, Ohio — In a de facto match of a defunct league, the Gallia Academy Blue Angels are the ones which emerged victorious.

That’s because the Blue Angels, in a quadrangular girls golf tilt on Monday at Hocking Hills Golf Club in Logan, amassed an eight-stroke triumph over the host Lady Chiefs.

The Blue Angels fired a team total of 213 — only six shots off their school record for nine holes, which they posted a week earlier at Westfall.

Gallia Academy edged out Logan, 213-221, while Warren shot a 250 and Vinton County a 258.

Gallia Academy, Logan and Warren were all longtime members of the Southeastern Ohio Athletic League, as GAHS officially left the SEOAL before the 2016-17 academic year.

With Jackson joining five other schools to form the Frontier Athletic Conference, the SEOAL —the oldest non-city athletic league in the state — officially dissolved.

Ryelee Sipple, a freshman, paced the Blue Angels with a medalist runner-up effort of 48.

Hunter Copley carded a 52, Molly Fitzwater finished with a 54, and Bailey Meadows managed a 59 for the Blue and White’s other three counting scores.

Both Copley and Fitzwater are juniors, while Meadows is a sophomore.

The top four scores for each club counted towards the team total.

Gallia Academy’s non-counting cards were a pair of 63s by Avery Minton and Macy Jones.

Lexis Fickel led Logan with a 47, as that was also good enough to claim match medalist honors.

However, the Lady Chiefs’ other three scores were a 52, a 58 and a 64.

Hannah Jankauskas paced Warren with a 56, while Belle Lambert led Vinton County with a 55.

The Blue Angels are actually only in year two of playing as a full golf team.
